AFS Institute partners with NoRedesign to provide training for casting design engineers
Design engineers can improve their castings and cut costs with a program from NoRedesign.com offered in partnership with the American Foundry Society Institute.
NoRedesign and the AFS Institute will provide 32 instructional videos from leading metalcasting expert Mike Gwyn, who teaches engineers to eliminate expensive redesigns and re-tooling that can cut into margins.
AFS Institute premieres Training Best Practices Workshop
A new workshop from the American Foundry Society Institute teaches the best ways to improve training in metalcasting plants.
The Training Best Practices Workshop is a highly interactive one-day course providing a strategic view of industrial training. Students will get solutions and templates to support training at their facilities, with applications specific to their companies. The workshop will focus discussions on training for industrial operations and maintenance employees.

OSU, Central Ohio chapters have strong partnership
Eric Weiffenbach remembers visiting Ohio State University’s working foundry as a boy with his father. Today, Weiffenbach (Keener Sand & Clay Co.) continues that tradition – this time, as president of the AFS Central Ohio Chapter.
Every fall, the Central Ohio Chapter and the OSU Student Chapter come together for a joint dinner and meeting on campus at OSU. It’s an opportunity for the students to present their work and network with professionals, and a chance for the pros share their knowledge and recruit students into the industry.
AFS meets CIC
AFS staff met with the next generation of metalcasters at the Foundry Educational Foundation's College Industry Conference, Nov. 15-16 in Chicago.
The annual event attracts promising students at FEF schools who are looking for careers in metalcasting. Prospective employers meet with the students, many of whom come away with internships and job offers.
AFS was on hand to answer questions and network with students and professors. Andrew Rose of Penn State University also was presented with a scholarship from Modern Casting magazine.
