The Advanced Casting Research Center is moving to the University of California-Irvine. ACRC, of which AFS is a member and supporter, conducts critical research into casting technologies and processes.
The International Journal of Metalcasting, the American Foundry Society’s technical and research publication, released its 50th issue this month.
A new AFS research project will investigate porosity in no-lead brass castings that contributes to high scrap rates. The AFS Research Board approved the project from the Copper Alloys Division, titled “Turbulent Gating Effect on C89833 Alloy,” in September.
The research will help determine the effect of different non-turbulent gating systems on pressure tightness and mechanical properties of C89833 material.
Ongoing AFS-sponsored research seeks to address costly inclusion defects that plague steel casting production by exploring how various gating designs affect filling conditions and casting quality.
