These honors recognize groundbreaking research, practical advancements, and influential ideas that are shaping the future of the metalcasting industry.

2025 AFS Applied Research Award

(SCHAUMBURG, IL) The American Foundry Society (AFS), North America’s largest metalcasting organization, announced today that Brad Muller will represent AFS and the United States on the Executive Committee of the World Foundry Organization (WFO).

The American Foundry Society, North America’s largest metalcasting organization, today offered congratulations to President-Elect Donald J. Trump, Vice President-Elect JD Vance, and all newly elected lawmakers. Following a sharply contested series of national elections, now is the time for policymakers to begin coming together on forward-thinking public policies that will bolster economic growth, encourage reshoring, and provide opportunity for all Americans. 

The AFS Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Conference returns for its 36th year as the premier event for foundry industry EHS professionals. This year’s conference takes place October 1-3, 2024. Held at the Amway Grand Plaza in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the conference brings together industry leading experts and your peers to discuss the latest developments, innovations, and best practices in foundry EHS. 

The American Foundry Society is set to host the 2024 Foundry Leadership Summit from September 22-24 in beautiful Colorado Springs, Colorado.

This premier event gathers top professionals from across the metalcasting industry. Attendees of the event will learn about cutting-edge strategies and emerging industry trends. Additionally, attendees will benefit from leadership-focused sessions, networking opportunities, and discussions on the future of foundry operations.

In a joint effort between AFS and University of Northern Iowa, Matthews Additive Technologies, Matthews International Corporation, Liberty Pattern, and American Pattern & CNC works, AFS is proud to announce the completion of the Peters-Robison Library Memorial plaque!

The Peters-Robison AFS Metalcasting Library is named in memory of the late R.D. “Butch” Peters and the late Stephen T. Robison. 

President Trump, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto signed the new U.S. Mexico Canada Agreement — or USMCA — in Buenos Aires on Nov. 30.

The agreement provides increased requirements for automotive components to be produced in North America and follows more than a year of talks to update the 24-year-old North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which supports about $1.2 trillion in annual trade among the three countries in the USMCA.
