Engineering/Smart Manufacturing Division Creates New Working Groups

The AFS Engineering and Smart Manufacturing Division has launched several new working groups focused on smart manufacturing in metalcasting. Following up on the recent AFS Foundry Industry 4.0 conference, AFS held  a virtual roundtable meeting on smart manufacturing in early August, attended by several dozen metalcasting industry experts.

Attendees discussed smart manufacturing, how AFS can assist foundries to incorporate smart manufacturing into their operations, technical gaps that impede smart manufacturing activities in foundries, and where opportunities and concerns exist for metalcasters when it comes to these new technologies and processes.

Eight new working groups have been developed and meetings will begin in a few weeks.

  • Wearable Technology for Worker Safety
  • Sensors
  • Data Analytics
  • Data Collection and Storage
  • Workforce Development, Personnel and Training
  • Standards
  • Cybersecurity
  • ICME, Casting Design and Simulation
