On July 8, Senator Gary Peters of Michigan introduced legislation proposing a new independent federal institute, the National Institute of Manufacturing. The bill received statements of support from industry groups, including the Association for Equipment Manufacturers, the Alliance for American Manufacturing, and the American Foundry Society.

Taking advantage of the 10th anniversary of the 1st Carl Loper Symposium, held in Madison (Wisconsin, USA), a 2nd edition of this outstanding technical event will be held, this time in Europe. Organized by the IK4-AZTERLAN Metallurgy Research Centre (Spain), the American Foundry Society (USA), the World Foundry Organization and the Tabira Foundry Institute (Spain), the 2nd Carl Loper Symposium will take place in Bilbao, Spain, on September 30th and October 1st.
Manufacturing Day is co-produced by the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, International (FMA), the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), the Manufacturing Institute (MI), the National Institute of Standards and Technology's (NIST) Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP), and guest producer Industrial Strength Marketing (ISM). The American Foundry Society (AFS) supports Manufacturing Day activities for metalcasters.

“There are approximately 1,900 foundries in the United States, pouring a variety of molten metals. The largest foundries are often among the major employers in their community, providing excellent jobs and producing large numbers of castings,” said Doug Kurkul, CEO of the American Foundry Society.
