Sen. Young, Rep. Granger to Receive 2023 Congressional Champion Award

The American Foundry Society is proud to announce that Sen. Todd Young (R-IN) and Rep. Kay Granger (R-TX) have been selected as the recipients of the 2023 Metalcasting Industry Congressional Champion Award.

The award is presented to lawmakers who have demonstrated strong support of U.S. metalcasters and an understanding of the important role foundries play in our economy and industrial base. Granger and Young have consistently championed policies that promote growth and competitiveness for metalcasters across the country.

"We are honored to recognize Sen. Todd Young and Rep. Kay Granger as this year's Congressional Champion Award recipients," said Doug Kurkul, CEO of AFS. "Their steadfast support of the metalcasting industry has been invaluable, and we thank them for their efforts to promote policies that help our industry thrive."

Sen. Young, a member of the Senate Finance Committee and the Commerce, Science & Transportation Committee, is a top manufacturing advocate. In the last Congress, he was a leader on the CHIPS Act, which will increase U.S. semiconductor chip production to alleviate stressed supply chains. He is championing efforts to restore incentives for R&D investment and to repeal the federal excise tax on heavy trucks and trailers.

Rep. Granger is a strong supporter of metalcasters across the country. She’s served Texas’ 12th congressional district since 1997, when she became the first Republican woman to represent Texas in the U.S. House. She also chairs the important House Appropriations Committee.

The awards will be presented at a reception on June 20 at the Capitol Hill Club during the 2023 AFS Government Affairs Fly-In in Washington, D.C. The Fly-In is an annual event where metalcasters from across the country come together to discuss the issues facing the industry and advocate for policies that will support its continued growth and success.
