Rave reviews for AFS Stormwater Compliance Seminar

Metalcasters from around the country gave high marks to the 2018 AFS Stormwater Compliance Seminar, which took place May 8-9 in Columbus, Ohio.

Participants who filled out a post-seminar survey gave the event an average rating of 4.8 out of 5.0 for the seminar’s speakers, organization and relevance. The program content received an impressive 5.0 rating.

“Great course. The content was exactly what I had hoped to get from the course,” one participant wrote. “The foundry-specific BMPs will be extremely helpful, as well as the AFS Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan template and best practices.”

“All presenters were organized and entertaining to keep the audience informed and enticed,” another participant wrote. “The depth of [presenter] Larry Bowers’ knowledge was evident by his introduction with the group.”

At the AFS Stormwater Compliance Seminar, metalcasters received in-depth, foundry-specific training related to stormwater compliance, including state-specific rules. The course covered a review of regulations, where to find resources online, filing a Notice of Intent, the current definition of “Waters of the U.S.”, and how to complete a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan.

"One highlight of the program was learning that most often, the simplest and least expensive stormwater control equipment is the most effective, if installed properly," said Juliette Garesché, AFS senior environmental health and safety technical director.

The American Foundry Society is a dynamic technical and advocacy organization that serves and represents the $33 billion metalcasting industry.
