Required Skills or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience, with experience in a manufacturing. Environment and/or association leadership is preferred.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing including business practices and regulatory and policy issues is highly preferred. Experience in dealing with small business concerns and heavy manufacturing are a plus.
  • Proven ability and experience managing/working with a volunteer organization.

Assistant Director of Marketing Communications

Purpose:

The American Foundry Society, the primary association serving the $50 billion metalcasting industry, seeks a high-energy, well-organized Assistant Director of Marketing & Communications. The successful candidate will bring 7 to 10 years of demonstrably successful experience in planning and executing communications campaigns; maintaining complex websites; implementing social media strategies; hosting meetings or webinars; and proofreading and fact-checking documents. The candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment where superior member service and accurate communication are paramount. A college degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Digital Communications, Business Administration, or another relevant field is preferred. The position offers competitive compensation, great benefits, and potential for future promotion. 

This position is responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of AFS messaging across all communication channels, including the website, email, social media, print, and other platforms. Key duties include digital project management, content creation, writing, proofreading and fact-checking, marketing support, routine website updates, event staffing, and basic design work. The role also contributes to broader society-wide and departmental marketing and communications initiatives in collaboration with the Marketing Communications team.

Required Skills or Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, corporate communications, digital media, and business administration, or another relevant field is preferred.
     

  • 7-10 years of experience in a fast-paced digital marketing, communications, or marketing setting. Association experience preferred but not required

  • Excellent writing, promotional copywriting, speaking, listening, and project-organization skills.

  • Must be fluent in English, written and spoken.

  • Proficiency with MS Office and social media is mandatory.

  • Working Knowledge of Adobe Suite is desired.

  • Experience with CRM and e-blast tools.

  • Familiarity with HTML 

  • Familiarity with Google Analytics reporting

  • Excellent project-management skills.

  • Familiarity with manufacturing and business-government relations is a plus.

  • Occasional Travel & Tradeshow work required.

Must have valid driver's license.
