The AFS Institute is proud to announce Metalcasting for Purchasing Professionals, a course for new buyers, purchasing managers, and supplier development engineers.
Foundries operate differently from other supply bases, and those new to the industry can make costly mistakes when they don’t understand those details. This course helps close that knowledge gap by connecting metalcasting fundamentals directly to the decisions purchasing professionals make every week.
Participants will explore the major casting processes and learn how to select, audit, and manage metalcasting suppliers. The course also addresses the critical elements of a casting PPAP, practical strategies for responding to quality problems, metalcasting surcharges, total cost of ownership, long-term agreements, supplier portfolio management, and strategies for building redundancy and contingency into a metalcasting supply chain.
By building fluency in metalcasting terminology and processes, participants will evaluate quotes more critically, ask sharper questions, and identify risks. They will be equipped to make smarter sourcing decisions and build stronger supplier partnerships.
This is the first AFS Institute course developed specifically for professionals who make casting purchasing decisions.
"A casting is specified, sourced, and priced long before anyone pours metal," said AFS Chief Executive Officer Justin Scott. "Putting working knowledge of metalcasting in the hands of the people making those decisions is one of the most practical things AFS can do for the industry."
Jim White, an expert consultant with more than 20 years of foundry-industry experience, will teach the course. White has taught several AFS Institute classes and brings experience from both casting production and purchasing to help participants connect course concepts to the challenges they face every day.
