EHS Division honors award-winners

A new award for green foundries and a lifetime achievement award for AFS 2nd Vice President Mike Lenahan were among the honors presented by the EHS Division at the AFS 30th Environmental, Health & Safety Conference in Ohio Oct. 9-11.

The Green Foundry Case Study Awards recognize AFS Corporate Members for achievements in sustainable industry, innovation and environmental engagement. This is the first year they have been awarded. The winners are:

  • Kennedy Valve, a division of McWane, first prize in sustainable industry;
  • Waupaca Foundry Inc., runner-up in sustainable industry;
  • Amsted Rail Company, runner-up in sustainable industry;
  • Clow Valve, a division of McWane, first prize in innovation; and
  • Waupaca Foundry Inc., first prize in environmental engagement.

Twenty-three plants won Safe Year Awards, granted to facilities that go a year without any lost-time incidents. They are:

  • Advanced Cast Products,
  • Alliant Castings,
  • Anvil International,
  • Aurora Metals Division LLC,
  • Charlotte Pipe and Foundry Company,
  • Denison Industries,
  • Erie Bronze & Aluminum,

  • MetalTek International-Carondelet Division,
  • MetalTek International-Wisconsin Centrifugal Division,
  • MetalTek International-Wisconsin Investcast Division,
  • Novis Works LLC,
  • Oil City Iron Works Inc.,
  • Osco Industries-New Boston Division,
  • Pier Foundry & Pattern Shop Inc.,
  • T.B. Wood's Inc.,
  • The Ford Meter Box Company Inc.,
  • U.S. Pipe and Foundry Co.-Bessemer,
  • U.S. Pipe Bessemer Works,
  • U.S. Pipe,
  • U.S. Pipe Mini Mill, and
  • Wabash Castings Inc.

Lenahan (KB Foundry Services) was honored with the 2018 Childress-Loebler EHS Lifetime Achievement Award for his many contributions to the industry.

Also at the conference, Brent Charlton (Metal Technologies-Auburn) won the 2018 EHS New Member Award, and Eric Pylkas (Insight IH Consulting) and Paul Lynes (Finger Lynes Engineering) each won the 2018 EHS Division Service Award.

The conference attracted more than 160 metalcasters, making it AFS’  biggest EHS event in years.
