Development of Quality-Focused Knowledge Base for the Lost PLA Casting Process

This webinar will explore the integration of additively manufactured PLA patterns into metal casting through a Lost-PLA inspired process, where patterns produced using Material Extrusion (MEX) technology disintegrate during molten aluminum pouring rather than being burned out beforehand. The presentation will highlight a full factorial Design of Experiment (DOE) investigating the effects of pattern shell thickness, refractory coating type, and sand grain size on casting quality through evaluations of surface roughness, dimensional accuracy, hardness, and internal defects. Attendees will gain insight into how process parameters influence casting performance and strategies for improving casting quality and minimizing defects in Lost-PLA inspired casting processes.
