On December 20, 2012, EPA promulgated changes to Clean Air Act standards for Area Source boilers and Major Source boilers/process heaters. The final rules for Area Source boilers were published in the Federal Register on February 1, 2013. The final rules for Major Source boilers were published in the Federal Register on January 31, 2013.
While both rules have undergone several proposed variations, stays and deadline extensions, the 2013 final rules provides some certainty for facilities regarding applicable requirements for their equipment.
