    11.09.17: AFS translates popular e-Learning module into Spanish

    The first Spanish-language AFS e-Learning training module is now available, AFS and the Institute announced today. The first module, Prácticas Básicas de Fusión para Hierro, is available at the AFS Store right now. It explains the different melting and pouring processes of cast iron, inspection methods, and quality testing entirely in Spanish. It is available for immediate use and training of foundry personnel.

    According to a news release, the company has laid the groundwork for employee ownership with an employee stock ownership program. By doing that, the company will assure the ownership is remaining local.

    11.03.17: D.C. Circuit Hears Arguments in Metalcasting Industry's Challenge to OSHA's Silica Rule – What’s Next for Foundries?

    AFS, in conjunction with the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), petitioned for review OSHA’s respirable crystalline silica rule. That lawsuit was consolidated with other challenges to the rule in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. The case has been fully briefed and oral argument was held before a three-judge panel on September 26, 2017. The case is now awaiting a decision of the court which could be days or months away.

    10.31.17: EPA to end "Sue and Settle" Practice

    EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt announced on October 16, 2017 that EPA would end the practice of regulation through litigation to resolve legal challenges to Agency actions and inactions known as “Sue and Settle.” Administrator Pruitt indicated that the “Sue and Settle” process “undermines the fundamental principles of government,” including: “(1) the importance of process, (2) adherence to the rule of law, and (3) the applicability of cooperative federalism.”

    10.17.17: AFS Supports EPA's Action to Repeal the Clean Power Plan

    On October 10, 2017, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed to repeal the Clean Power Plan for Existing Power Plants. EPA presented the rule to the public as designed to drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions from existing utilities. AFS has argued that the rule would hurt U.S. metalcasters with dramatically increased energy costs.

    AFS has issued a final call for papers for the 122nd Metalcasting Congress to be held April 3-5, 2018 in Fort Worth, Texas. AFS is seeking papers covering all issues relating to metalcasting, diecasting and foundry management and operations, including unique in-plant procedures, new technologies, equipment, products and other innovations that have contributed to enhanced metalcasting productivity and quality.
