Former Denver Broncos Captain and All-Pro linebacker Karl Mecklenburg rose from being a college walk-on and a 12th round draft pick to a pro career that included six Pro Bowl and three Super Bowl appearances. Considered the NFL's most versatile player, Mecklenburg has played all seven defensive front positions. In 2001, Mecklenburg was inducted into the Denver Broncos Ring of Fame and the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame. Mecklenburg enjoys speaking to a variety of groups, and his story is both humorous and inspirational. Life in the NFL taught him lessons about teamwork, courage, dedication, desire, honesty and forgiveness, and goal setting, which he calls his "Six Keys to Success."
Buddy Hobart is an internationally recognized pioneer on leadership in a multi-generational workforce and a trailblazer in the practice of attracting, developing, and retaining next-generation leaders. He authored the Gen Y Now series, which was widely regarded as groundbreaking in portraying Gen Y in a positive light, and both editions resulted in sellouts. His sixth book, The Leadership Decade: A Playbook for an Extraordinary Era, details how to prepare your company for prosperity through intensive investment in your employees’ abilities as supervisors, managers, and leaders — even during a crisis. He is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University and is a returning instructor at the U.S. Army War College, where he teaches an elective course on the evolution of leadership. Hobart will advise attendees on how to ensure that next-generation leaders at their companies build the muscle memory habits needed to mature into key organizational decision-makers and build business’ legacies.
Manufacturers are confronting an array of conflicting economic, political and public-health trends as they seek to grow their businesses. Gus Faucher, Ph.D. is an internationally respected economist who draws on experience with Moody Analytics and the U.S. Treasury Department, in addition to his current role with PNC. Dr. Faucher is regularly featured on Fox Business, CNBC and CNN and has been cited in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and many other publications. An energetic presenter, he will provide valuable and timely insight to the Foundry Leadership Summit audience.
Jim Folk is the Principal at The Folk Group, a merger and acquisition firm specializing in the metalcasting industry. Folk has orchestrated the acquisition of 36 foundries and business valuations of over 40 foundries and supervised three turnaround projects in the past 20 years. His expertise includes projects in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, India, Malaysia, Singapore and France. He also has clients in Italy, Sweden, India and Poland. He has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Drexel University and an MBA from Lehigh University. Folk was a licensed professional engineer for over 40 years.
Brent Charlton is an accomplished health and safety professional who serves as safety director at Metal Technologies in Auburn, Indiana, where he's worked since 2014. A graduate of Purdue University, Charlton is a frequent and popular presenter at AFS events, including safety seminars and EHS conferences. He chairs the AFS Health & Safety Committee.
Angela Dine Schmeisser leads St. Marys Foundry, a Midwestern iron foundry with a reputation for producing intricately-cored, complex castings. A graduate of the West Virginia University College of Business & Economics, she has extensive experience working in the metals industry. Dine Schmeisser is a member of the AFS Directors Class 2019-2023.
Matt Fetter has worked for Metal Technologies for 24 years, becoming CEO in 2016. He has an MBA from the University of Toledo and a Bachelor of Science from Indiana University.
Thomas Teske has worked for EJ in East Jordan, Michigan, for 45 years, starting in product sales. His career at this major manufacturer has included stints in its Construction Products Division and Sales Operations, and most recently, as VP & General Manager. Teske earned his degree at Kalamazoo College.
Ted Schorn is recognized as one of the world's foremost experts in quality inspection. With more than 35 years of experience in the field, Schorn focuses on teaching the skills of quality in a manufacturing environment, and problem-solving and engineering with an integrated perspective.
Schorn has written multiple books, including Improving the Effectiveness of Visual Inspection published by AFS. He is vice president at Enkei America, and he also teaches courses for the AFS Institute.
Doug Kurkul has been the CEO of the American Foundry Society since 2016. Kurkul began his career as a Presidential Management Fellow at SBA and later served as a Reagan Administration appointee at the Department of Energy. Kurkul went on to devote more than 20 years to the National Association of Manufacturers, including six years as Vice President of Member Communications and Marketing for NAM. While there, he was publisher of the award-winning magazine, Leadership for Manufacturers. He later served as CEO of business advocacy groups in Nevada and Texas before joining AFS.
Stephanie Salmon is AFS' representative in Washington, D.C. An experienced government relations professional, she specializes in manufacturing topics, including safety and health issues, energy, water, and as well as tax and trade matters.
