AFS Submits Comments on Secondary Aluminum Proposed Rule
February 6, 2015
In January, the American Foundry Society (AFS) submitted comments on the December 8, 2014, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) supplemental proposed rule for the national emissions standards for hazardous air pollutants (NESHAP) for secondary aluminum production.
The original proposal, published in the Federal Register on February 14, 2012, proposed amendments and clarifications regarding the residual risk and technology review for the secondary aluminum production source category. Many metalcasting operations process aluminum materials to produce critical components for a wide variety of application in the U.S. economy and are impacted by the requirements of this rule.
In its comments, AFS urged EPA to clarify and improve the monitoring, compliance and implementation of the requirements on the proposed regulatory language for this rule for metalcasting operations.
