Alabama Students Try Out Casting
November 30, 2012
Representatives from the American Foundry Society’s (AFS) Birmingham chapter and AMERICAN Cast Iron Pipe Co., Birmingham, visited Trussville High School, Trussville, Ala., Nov. 16, to introduce students to the world of metalcasting.
The presentation began with a short lecture on the history of metalcasting. Following the lecture, students tried casting for themselves with the use of AFS’s Foundry-in-a-Box kit. More than 250 students were able to take part in the event throughout the course of the day.
AFS Education Committee chair Ken Murphy estimates that in the past 15 months, 4,000 students throughout the state of Alabama have participated in a Foundry-in-a-Box presentation.
