Identifying the Correct Casting Defect
Provides participants with a basic overview of the casting defect analysis procedure. Topics include an introduction to the ten step method for casting defect identification; writing a good problem statement; discussion on the importance of recording process parameters; an introduction to navigating the International Atlas of Casting Defects; a path to identifying the right defect and its root cause for corrective action.

Introduction to Alloys
Provides participants introductory information covering the major alloy families. Topics include characteristics and properties (mechanical and physical), as well as general applications for each alloy type.

Introduction to Coreless Induction Furnace Operation
Learn best practices for safe operating techniques for induction melting. The course will cover furnace components; the sequence of operations for daily start up; normal furnace operation; differences between small and large induction furnaces; emergency situations and action plans.

Casting Material Properties
Provides participants with the ability to explain the difference between standard specified casting material properties and those found in castings; the influence of casting irregularities on the cast alloy properties; impact of the distribution of mechanical properties on the function of the casting in-service. Time will be spent highlighting the sources for realistic casting mechanical property data for casting design (CADS).  This is a “201” complimentary course to the Introduction to Alloys. 

Virtual Casting Process
Provides participants with the big picture of the path of a casting through a foundry, beginning with request for quote through tooling creation, production of the mold-pouring-shakeout/degating-cleaning/inspection, to shipping.
