Executive Committee 9-A

The primary activity is to plan, organize, administer and implement the necessary committees with the technical disciplines required in the advancement of the fields of knowledge related to steel castings.

Program & Papers Committee 9-B

Responsible for the preparation of the technical program for the Steel Division for the annual meeting of the Society. Secures papers and speakers with the responsibility for their review and acceptance.

Research Committee 9-C

Evaluates current technology of steel castings production to define need for further research. Prepare project descriptions for recommended programs to be funded, and monitors AFS-sponsored research.

Awards Committee 9-D

Develops biographical data on past and present division members. Prepares necessary forms for submission of division award nominees to the AFS Board of Awards.

Clean Steel Technology Committee 9-E

The responsibility of this committee is to evaluate, initiate and monitor research and disseminate information regarding technologies for the production of steel having the attributes of low residual element, gas and inclusion contents. These technologies include, but are not limited to, advanced melting processes, external refining processes, ladle metallurgy, metal handling, ladle practice and fluid flow/gating design.

Melting Committee 9-F

The primary objective of the Induction Furnace Committee is to transfer to industry through division-supported conferences the most current information regarding the induction melting of carbon steel, mild steel and high alloy steels. Dissemination of information pertaining to melting practices, refractory improvements for lining maintenance and metallurgical considerations will be a major objective of this committee.

Quality Committee 9-G

To promote the achievement of World Class Quality in the production of steel castings through the tenants of Six Sigma, Continuous Improvement, Process Management and other methodologies.
