AFS-FIRST has built a portal to a database maintained by U.S. EPA’s Environmental Assistance Compliance Platform (EnvCAP) that provides information on foundry sand rules and regulations in most states.  The tool is self-implementing so that state regulatory information can be managed directly by state agencies. However, because state rules change, it is important that foundries or foundry sand marketers check directly with their state regulatory agencies to be sure that the beneficial use they are proposing will comply with the state’s rules.  In many instances, states will grant case-by-case or Research and Development permits for foundry sand projects where it can be shown that similar projects have been conducted in other states.

Foundry Sand Reuse State Resource Locator  

Use the dropdown menu in the Foundry Sand State Reuse Locator to find a state. The absence of a state on the dropdown menu should not be interpreted to mean that the state does not allow foundry sand reuse.  For states not listed in the locator, the appropriate program office can be located by contacting the ASTSWMO Program Director.
