Executive Committee 5-A In its capacity as the governing body of the Gray Iron, Ductile Iron and Malleable Iron Committees, the Executive Committee oversees the activities of the numerous committees as they interrelate with individually sponsored committee projects and research activities. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Program and Papers Committee 5-B Responsible for the preparation of the technical program of the Cast Iron Division for the annual meeting of the Society. Secures papers and speakers with the responsibility for review and acceptance. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Awards & Advisory Committee 5-C Acts formally on behalf of the division and its committees in submitting nominees for awards to the Board of Awards. Provides advice to the division Executive Committee on specific subjects at their request. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Special Irons Committee 5-D Included in the scope of study by this committee are irons of higher strength, heat resistance, corrosion resistance or abrasion resistance. Objective is to compile and disseminate current information of interest to producers of such special irons. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gating and Risering Committee 5-G Committee objectives are to provide practical guidelines for improved gating and risering practice and to promote better understanding of the fundamental, underlying mechanisms of cast iron gating and solidification as it pertains to feeding requirements. Activities include collection and analysis of data from foundry trials using a standard T-plate casting developed by the committee, as well as collection and review of case studies of everyday gating problems. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gray Iron Research Committee 5-H Interests of the committee are concerned with improving knowledge of metallurgical properties for producers and users of flake graphite irons. Identifies areas requiring further study and develops project descriptions for recommended research, serving as a monitoring group for AFS-funded programs. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ductile and Compacted Graphite Iron Research Committee 5-I The AFS 5-I committee on ductile iron research will identify needs and identify ideas related to the technology of ductile iron and CGI. The committee will direct and/or conduct research. It will also promote technology. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quality Control Committee 5-J Activities include all aspects of testing and control procedures to ensure microstructural integrity and property reliability in finished castings. Publication activities have consisted of reference standards for microstructural evaluation of ferrite, pearlite and carbide content in ductile iron. Approved research programs include correlation of test bar and casting properties. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Molten Metal Processing Committee 5-L Deals with technology of all aspects of the molten metal processing of cast iron. Findings disseminated through handbooks, Congress panels and special reports. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cast Iron Marketing Committee 5-M The mission of the cast iron marketing committee is to supplement the activities of the Marketing Division by developing and implementing vital programs that increase the use of cast iron as an engineering materal and grow the markets for cast iron as an engineering material and grow the markets for iron castings, without comprimising the proprietary intrest of individual committee members. |
