AFS Signs Agreement With U.S. Automotive Materials Partnership
AFS announced the signing of a memorandum of agreement with the U.S. Automotive Materials Partnership LLC (USAMP), making the data contained in USAMP's Automotive Lightweight Materials database available to AFS for inclusion in the AFS online database Casting Alloy Data Search (CADS). The AFS CADS is partially sponsored by the Defense Supply Center Philadelphia, Philadelphia, and the Defense Logistics Agency, Ft. Belvoir, Va., and was designed in conjunction with Product Development & Analysis, Naperville, Ill.

CAD is a web-enabled casting material database that allows casting designers, metalcasters, Department of Defense employees and other users open access to the latest in casting material properties. The database is in a user-friendly format, contains all critical design properties, and allows for importability of the data into computer aided engineering design and failure element analysis programs. The database, in combination with the Casting Alloy & Process Selection tool, is designed to assist in the optimal selection of a casting process, casting alloy and manufacturing source. CADS has now become a key repository of new critical design information, such as the 25 cast iron strain controlled fatigue data sets conducted from work initially sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy and continuing through AFS and the Defense Logistics’ Agency.
