CastExpo'10 will kick-off with two workshops that will include the presenations: Cost Reduction and Quality Increase— A Formula for Success, Professor John Campbell, Univ. of Birmingham, U.K. and Quality Tools: Abused, Misused and Too Little Used Tools, Ted Schorn, Enkei America. A third workshop, Lean Manufacturing for Metalcasters, Frank E. Peters, Ph.D., Iowa State Univ., will be available as well.
The Campbell workshop will draw attention to the latest concepts regarding the filling and feeding of castings and ways to use the techniques in the metalcasting facility to reduce scrap, raise quality and reduce costs. Principles will apply to all foundry casting processes and metals will include case study data operating facilities. The workshop also will discuss the effect of entrainment defects on the structure and properties of castings and techniques to avoid the creation of entrainment defects.
The Schorn workshop will show applications of common and not so common tools that can help solve quality, environmental and safety problems. Common mistakes in tool use will be discussed, along with how to use new tools for some frequently occurring casting problems. In addition, SPC, auditing, visual inspection, pareto charts, process mapping, failure mode and effects analysis and scatter diagrams will be discussed.
The Peters workshop will discuss the elements associated with lean manufacturing principles and how to apply them to metalcasting operations.
CastExpo'10 will be held March 20-23 at the Orange County Convention Center, Orlando. FL. To register for these workshops, visit castexpo.com.
