Copper Casters, Others Tackle No-Lead Legislation Print E-mail
On Sept. 20, the AFS Copper Alloy Div. held a roundtable meeting to discuss the implications of California legislation AB 1953, which further restricts the acceptable level of lead used in potable water applications. The bill recently passed through the state legislature and, as of press time, now sits on Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s desk. Earlier in September, AFS wrote a letter to the governor asking that he delay signing the bill until further research can be done to investigate alternative no-lead materials, such as bismuth, and the various questions surrounding them, including availability, manufacturability, machinability and cost. For more information on the project, contact Steve Robison, AFS senior technical director, at 800/537-4237 or This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .
