AFS funded an interim project for the Comparing Alternate Foundry Coating Measurement Systems project until AMC funding became available. This vanguard work with Western Michigan University is ideally suited for this study as a FEF accredited school and home to internationally known paper programs funded through the Paper Technology Foundation. This project compares the AFS sand testing procedures with those developed by the paper industry where stringent multi layer coatings are applied to meet specific technical requirements in the paper industry. These results will be used to distill the key characteristics which need to be conveniently, consistently, and correctly measured by metalcasters.
