John Campbell to Instruct Filling & Feeding Course for CMI, Collaborates With AFS on Publication
Professor John Campbell, Univ. of Birmingham, Birmingham, U.K., will be instructing a casting filling and feeding workshop Nov. 3 at the Cast Metals Institute (CMI), located at AFS Headquarters, Schaumburg, Ill.

The world-renowned and respected metalcasting author and researcher will present a one-day workshop focusing on the reduction of entrainment defects and the structure and properties of castings, drawing attention to the latest concepts regarding the filling and feeding of castings and ways to use the techniques in the metalcasting facility to reduce scrap, raise quality and reduce costs. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own problem castings, which will be examined as part of class exercises.

In addition, Campbell has worked with AFS to publish Concise Castings: A Casting Workshop Lecture. In this transcript of his workshop, Campell puts forth his views on a variety of casting topics, including entrainment, bifilms and their effect on casting properties, improving casting technology, pouring systems and the ablation casting process.
