Standards and Specifications: The RMRC Foundry Sand Portal includes a searchable database of standards and specifications relating to the use of foundry sand in highway and construction applications.
Note: The AASHTO Subcommittee on Materials (SOM) is preparing a “Standard Practice for the Foundry Sand for Structural Fill and Embankments.” It will likely be balloted as a provisional practice in August 2011. The draft practice can be downloaded from the AFS-FIRST library for review or reference. For more information, contact Dr. Jeffrey Melton at the Recycled Materials Resource Center.
Foundry Sand in Infrastructure Applications – Conference Presentations
In October 2007, the first “Foundry Sand Forum: Infrastructure Applications,” was held in Chicago, Illinois. Jointly sponsored by FIRST, AFS, FHWA, and US EPA, forum participants included state departments of transportation and environmental regulation, as well as foundry operators, consulting engineers, US EPA officials, FHWA officials, and RMRC researchers.
