Casting Manufacturing

Converting a weldment to a metal casting cuts down on production time, and ultimately cost.

Weldment to Metal Casting
A nobake core is placed into a large green sand mold.

Core Setting
A large crucible, recently filled with molten gray iron from the furnace, is on its way to the molding line to pour castings.

Furnace Being Tapped
Robots assemble a mold package for an engine block.

Robotic Molding
A worker removes a die casting from a steel die.

Diecasting
In the nobake molding process, refractory sand is coated with a binder and a liquid catalyst. As the binder and catalyst combine, a chemical reaction hardens the sand. Here, the refractory wash is applied.

Refractory Wash
Sand cores are used in a variety of metalcasting processes to produce internal cavities in the metal part.

Sand Molding Line
Vertically parted molding machines, normally used for high-production runs, compact molding sand by squeezing.

Vertically Parted Mold
Metalcasting is the world's original recycler. The scrap metal shown here will be melted and poured to become a useful casting.
