Panel: Work Hardening — How to Overcome Obstacles
Whether it’s the market, finances, people, systems, technology or change, the workplace is filled with challenges. From entry-level staff to CEOs, adversity in the workplace affects us all. How we embrace these challenges and our ability to learn and grow from them stand as a reflection of character, culture and adaptability. View challenges for what they are — obstacles for growth and opportunities to succeed.

Thursday, April 5
8-10:15 a.m.
Creating a Culture of Respect Through Feedback
It’s more critical than ever to develop a culture of respect and safety for all employees. We all have a stake in driving a safe and enjoyable work climate, whether you’re a man or a woman, salaried or hourly, experienced or brand-new. One way that you can support a thriving workplace is through your ability to deliver and receive feedback. Learn about three triggers of feedback and how to defuse the triggers before they impact your credibility, reputation, and a workplace that works for everyone. Identify your own reactions to feedback and how they may get in the way of growth and change. Build awareness around the three feedback triggers that shut you and others down. Respond with curiosity—even when you feel defensive. Recognize when psychological safety is compromised and take action to help others learn. Deliver feedback to others using five steps.

PLUS, make yourself stand out by entering the Student Technical Digital Poster Contest. This is an opportunity to showcase your undergraduate research projects in digital posters presented during a scheduled event at The HUB at the 122nd Metalcasting Congress. All eligible entries will be reviewed by AFS technical staff and a panel of metalcasting-industry experts based on a given criteria. The winning project will receive a $3,000 FEF scholarship. Top submissions accompanied by papers will be published in the AFS International Journal of Metalcasting.
